I thought I would keep a running list of words that are totally different here in Australia vs. the States. I find it difficult to understand the heavy Aussie accent. I went to get my watch battery changed and asked the guy how much it would cost -- all I could get was seven and then a garble of Aussie accent. Asked him to repeat it 2x and finally I thought he said seventy-dollars. Was a little surprised at how expensive it was and when I repeated 'seventy-dollars', he gave me an annoyed and slow, 'NO, S-e-v-e-n-t-e-e-n dollars.' It's amazing how the English language can sound so foreign.
Here's the list so far:
Ta = thank you
Nappie = diaper
Pram = stroller
Breky = breakfast
Rock melon = cantaloupe
Bub = baby
Bathers = bathing suit
To take a 'lie down' = to take a nap
Lamington = traditional Australian cake - square shaped and covered in chocolate and coconut....yum. :)
I love the word translation dictionary your keeping, we can learn along with you:) Cant wait to see pics of Micah in AU.
